Once around the world

Once around the world

250 Nuri cans sailed around the world together with the Austrian Captain Gugg in the Golden Globe Race.

Austrian sailor Michael Guggenberger

The Austrian sailor Michael Guggenberger, also known as "Captain Gugg", returned from the Golden Globe Race in May this year. On his boat 'Nuri' he sailed around the world in an impressive 249 days, alone, without stopping and without any technical aids. On board were 250 cans of Nuri Sardines, which sailed around the world together with 'Captain Gugg'. Indeed, the irresistible Nuri Sardines are a culinary delight worldwide. The unique Nuri tins will be launched on the 2nd of October as an exclusive limited edition in the Nuri Shops in Matosinhos and Vienna in Vienna and Online.

The 45-year-old Captain Gugg was the first Austrian to sail around the world without technical aids and was celebrated as the third-place winner of the Golden Globe Race. As a pure self-supporter, the sailor was dependent on nutritious and durable food. His sailing boat is therefore called 'Nuri', just like the captain's favourite food.

Austrian sailing history

Austrian sailing history

On May 12th 2023, Michael Guggenberger returned from his impressive adventure to the French Atlantic coast in Les Sables d'Olonne. Single-handed and without any stops, Captain Gugg defied all odds and thus wrote Austrian sailing history, while some of his fellow competitors had to give up in the course of the race.

For a good cause

The Nuri brand and its loyal fans are grateful to the sea every day. Because the sea gives the world its unique resources, allowing extraordinary products and projects to be created. When you buy one of the 250 tins, you have a piece of Portugal at home and at the same time you make an important contribution. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the unique sailing project 'Mirno More', which supports socially disadvantaged young people worldwide. Founded in 1994, the project promotes tolerance, integration, inclusion and harmonious coexistence. Since 2006, the fleet has been organised as a rally in which people from different social groups, war orphans and refugee children take part. By sailing together for a week, common goals are realised in an efficient and sustainable way. The Peace Fleet shows how sailing can not only be a sportive and cultural experience, but also a strong symbol for a better living together.
